Here in New York City, any help we can get always helps when it comes to forming meaningful relationships. I recently had the chance to sit down with matchmaker and dating coach, Suzanne K. Oshima for some advice. Here's what she had to say:
Question: Having once launched an online dating site, and now focusesing on offline matchmaking and date coaching, you clearly have a lot of experience in the industry. What would you say is the biggest misconception that single women in New York have about dating and trying to find the perfect man?
The biggest misconception single women in New York and single women everywhere have is, precisely, that they are trying to find the perfect man!
They have a check list of everything they want in a guy, which ultimately adds up to their idea of the “perfect man” to marry. When a woman has a long checklist of “must haves”, all she’s doing is setting herself up for failure.
As a Matchmaker & Dating Coach, I know what is and is not possible when it comes to finding the “perfect man”. The truth of the matter is, she will never find someone who meets 100% of what she’s looking for. If she does, then she hit the 1 in 10 million lottery, which we all know rarely happens.
The reality for most single women is, they will be lucky to find someone who meets 75-80% of what they’re looking for, and she needs to decide if that 20-25% of what he’s missing is really a deal breaker.
Once a woman lets go of the notion of finding the “perfect man”, she might actually meet the perfect man!
