The marquee for the main event of tonight’s NWA Smoky Mountain show reads Jason “The Gift” Kincaid v. Chase Owens for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship. With two of the best on the indies and some say two of the best not to have been signed by one of the “big three” (WWE/TNA/ROH) squaring off the fans, as well as the business of professional wrestling, are in for what could possibly a Match of the Year candidate.
While the two are not strangers in the ring, Owens defeated Kincaid for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship in Houston (NWA Houston) last October and Kincaid defeated Owens in April in the finals of the NWA Smoky Mountain Cup and both those matches were off the charts. Anytime Kincaid or Owens step into the ring individually their matches are usually the “show stealer” but when they are in the ring together, they seem to step things up a notch.
As the main event for NWA Smoky Mountain tonight and with the title on the line the two will undoubtedly push one another as hard as humanely possibly and whatever the outcome may be, the match is guaranteed to deliver and be brutal as it will be filled with finesse.
“The Specialist” Jeff Connelly will put his NWA Smoky Mountain Television Championship on the line against “Notorious” Nick Hammonds in what is being hailed as “the grudge match unlike any other.” Connelly has become one of the top rated indie stars in the Mid-South and Mid-Atlantic and done so the old fashioned way, hard work, dedication and refining his skills with the help of veteran workers who have called Connelly a “natural” in the ring.
New NWA Mountain Empire Heavyweight Champion Daniel Mulligan will defend his title against Kevin Tyler. Mulligan is crafty and mean and gives off the vibe that he would give his own mother an ass whipping if she stepped into the ring against him.
Elliot Russell and Sigmon will challenge the ever popular Air America (Gavin Daring/Skylar Kruze) for the NWA Smoky Mountain Tag Team Championship. Air America likes to have a fast paced, high flying match and the challenge from Russell and Sigmon should make for a very interesting match.
Former WCW SuperStar Bunkhouse Buck will be on-hand to challenge Kingsport, TN native “Mr. X-Citement” Jeff Tankersley in what is being billed as another “grudge match.” Buck comes from a long line (family) of professional wrestlers including cousins Robert and Ron Fuller, uncle Buddy Fuller and father Jimmy Golden. Buck had a memorable feud with Dustin Rhodes while in WCW and won the WCW World Tag Team Championship with Dick Slater.
Also scheduled to appear is “The Prodigy” Vince Brent as he challenges the “Tennessee Redneck” Chris Richards in a rematch from the NWA Smoky Mountain Cup and William Huckaby/Shawn Adams will challenge Joe Black/ATL in tag team action.
Though The Illuminati are represented in singles competition one never knows when the rest of the group will make an appearance and during whose matches.
NWA Smoky Mountain is often called the flagship of the National Wrestling Alliance which has seen a resurgence of late. “Ironman” Rob Conway became a two time NWA World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Satoshi Kojima for the title during the Cauliflower Alley Club annual reunion in Las Vegas.
