Matadors to Open Up 2014 Big West Tournament Against Hawaii

After missing out on the Big West Tournament last year, Cal State Northridge (15-17), will try to make some noise when they face Hawaii (20-10) in the Big West quarterfinals on Thursday March 13th at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Matadors enter the tournament as the 5th seed while Hawaii enters as the 4th seed. This will be the third time the two teams meet this season with the Matadors winning the January 11th meeting at the Matadome 79-78 and the Warriors winning the February 1st match up in Hawaii 77-63.

The game promises to be exciting and intense as both teams will surely battle hard to keep their seasons and hopes of an automatic March Madness birth alive as neither of them is likely to make it to the big dance without a tournament championship given that neither won the Big West regular season title. The Matadors are seeking their first tournament championship since 2009 while Hawaii is trying to capture its first Big West title since joining the conference in 2012.

Tip off is scheduled for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the UC Irvine-UC Riverside game at 6:00 PM. The complete schedule and bracket for the tournament can be found here.
