Mat legends – including NCAA champs, Olympians, coaches and even a Dan Hodge Trophy winner – along with former professional athletes and other celebrities are slated to participate in the 2014 Dan Gable Celebrity Golf Tournament, event sponsor the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum announced Tuesday.

The 15th edition of the event – a fundraiser for the Hall – will be held at the Centennial Oaks Country Club in Waverly, Iowa on Friday, June 6.

Among the wrestlers, coaches and mat officials who will be attending the Dan Gable tourney include NCAA champs Tolly Thompson (University of Nebraska), Pete Bush (University of Iowa); Olympic wrestlers Chuck Yagla (1980) and Ed Banach (1984 gold medalist); college coaches Doug Schwab (University of Northern Iowa), Joel Greenlee (Ohio University), and current and past Wartburg College head coaches Eric Keller and Jim Miller; retired referee Mike Allen; and 2001 Dan Hodge award co-winner (and Simpson College NCAA champ) Nick Ackerman.

In addition, a number of past pro football, baseball and basketball stars will be on the links, including those who played for the Chicago Cubs, White Sox and the Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Indians, New York Giants and Jets, and other teams.

These nearly 40 sports celebrities will join special guest Mike Golic, co-host of ESPN’s “Mike and Mike” show, former NFL star, and former wrestler and football star at the University of Notre Dame.

“My love for wrestling has always equaled my love for football,” said Golic. “To be associated with anything Dan Gable related is an honor.”

Four-person teams will be paired with a celebrity in this 18-hole, best ball tournament. Cost is $150 per person; participants may register as a team or as an individual. Cost includes dinner, green fees, and cart. Dinner and live auction will follow the golf tournament with Dan Gable as the guest speaker.
