Mastro ice carving event is a hit at Wexford Plaza

The ice was flying as carolers sang and the very tall Ice Queen relayed stories of the far North to her newly found friends at Wexford Plaza Shopping Center on December 13. Of course, there was an endless supply of delicious cookies and candy canes for all to enjoy. There were games to win and even a live reindeer with antlers large enough to hang all of your winter coats.

Snow Queen visits Wexford to observe Ice Carving Event

This was the 21st year that Mastro Ice on Herron Avenue had sponsored the very popular Ice Carving Event Competition and Demonstration.

The ice carvers were the main event as families gathered around the stanchioned off areas to try to determine what the carvings were to become. The carvers were from all levels of accomplishment from first time with a chainsaw in hand to Mastro professionals.

The buzzing chain saws and specialty scraping tools created many wonders from the massive blocks of ice provided to the artists. As the artists worked within the two-hour time frame onlookers gleefully identified ice reindeer, snowmen, frolicking dolphins, candy canes with bows, carolers, and even the Grinch’s dog Max.

Tired and cold, everyone gathered in the activity room for the award ceremony presented by Mike Mastro. Everyone was a winner from the People’s Choice Awards and all the artists were recognized. Mr. Mastro was delighted with the results of carvers from first time attempts to accomplished eighteen-year professionals.
