Last summer, Atlanta’s alt-prog metal geniuses, Mastodon, landed in Boise for the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. This fall the band will return for a full headline show in support of a brand new record. The event will take place at the Revolution Concert House and Events Center in Garden City. Joining them will be France’s Gojira and Norway’s Kvelertak.

Fourteen years have passed since the founding of Mastodon, and over that stretch the band has released a series of six highly acclaimed albums, the last of which was this spring’s, Once More ‘Round the Sun. Each record has been unique in style while always maintaining the quartet’s dark signature. It has been Mastodon’s ability to stretch its sound from one album to the next that has endeared them to fans on a global stage. Once More ‘Round the Sun continues that tradition of pushing themselves in new directions. The band recorded the album with Grammy Award winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains).

Hailing from Bayonne, France, Gojira blends together elements of technical death metal, thrash, groove and progressive metal for a unique style all its own. The band is currently writing and preparing for its sixth studio album expected out sometime in 2014. It will be the follow up to 2012’s highly successful L'Enfant Sauvage. Earlier this year the band released a live DVD/CD/Picture book, Les Enfants Sauvages. Drummer Mario Duplantier has stated that the new studio album will be the band’s strongest to date and feature elements that will be new for fans.

Stavanger, Norway's Kvelertak are touring in support of their 2013 sophomore record, Meir. The album features the band’s sonic marriage of traditional metal with hardcore punk rock’s bombast and melody, and the relentless and aggressive attack and harsh vocals of black metal. Vocalist Erlend Hjelvik takes his cue from the latter rather than the former, offering up something of a nihilistic growl and bellow. He sings all the band’s songs in Norwegian. The sextet puts on a raucous live show that is a must see.
