Masters club ultimate Frisbee team, Boneyard, advances to championship final

After going 5-0 in pool play of 2010 USA Ultimate’s masters Club Championships, Boneyard has gone undefeated in the championship bracket on Saturday.

Boneyard, a Triangle-area masters club ultimate Frisbee team, won the Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament to secure a bid to nationals, which spans from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30 in Sarasota, Fla.

Masters teams comprise athletes ages 33 or older, and the 2010 Boneyard squad, with 28 members but only 27 traveling to the championships, features players as old as 50.

The men went undefeated in the pool play games which spanned Thursday, Oct. 28, and Friday, Oct. 29. Boneyard defeated FIGJAM 15-7 in the quarterfinals Friday and then triumphed over GLUM 17-16 in the semis Saturday.

The team will face Surly at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, in the final. Surly has also gone undefeated throughout the tournament.

The other masters team that advanced out of the Mid-Atlantic Region, Chesapeaked, went 3-2 in pool play. The team lost to Real Huck 9-15 in the quarterfinals and to the Beyonders 7-15 in the semifinals of the fifth-place bracket, dropping to the seventh-place game.

Chesapeaked finished seventh after defeating DoG 14-10.
