Master of Waves is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 3, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article on DailyMTG.com. Master of Waves is a powerful blue mythic rare creature that can create an overwhelming army of creatures for just four mana.
Master of Waves - 3U
Creature - Merfolk Wizard (Mythic Rare)
Protection from red
Elemental creatures you control get +1/+1.
When Master of Waves enters the battlefield, put a number of 1/0 blue Elemental creature tokens onto the battlefield equal to your devotion to blue. (Each U in the mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to blue.)
At worst, Master of Waves yields two 2/1 bodies, one of which has protection from red. To say that Master of Waves has a large potential impact on the battlefield is an understatement. In a best case scenario, you'll end up with an astounding additional 16 power on turn four (seven 2/1 Elemental creature tokens plus Master of Waves). In multiples those Elemental creature tokens are going to get big.
Taking a quick look at other colors, Master of Waves notably pumps Nivmagus Elemental and Mindsparker. Although you'll need a high devotion to blue in order to make an effective use of Master of Waves' "enters the battlefield" ability, going into three colors nets some intersting options. Spark Trooper will get a noticeable boost and Foundry Champion could be quite deadly with all the tokens created by Master of Waves in a white-blue-red deck. Regardless of how much red you use, you'll want to add Purphoros, God of the Forge.
In a white-blue-green deck Master of Waves will pump Voice of Resurgence and the Elemental token it creates when an opponent casts a spell on your turn or it dies. Wayfaring Temple can make extra copies of your Elemental tokens made by either Voice of Resurgence or Master of Waves. You'll also have access to Progenitor Mimic to copy Master of Waves every upkeep.
There's no doubt that Master of Waves will make a big splash in the competitive "Magic" scene.
How will you use Master of Waves?
