Massive solar storm may play havoc with Cell Phones, GPS and Radios this week

Huge solar flares gave off particles that are expected to hit the earth today and tomorrow, giving one of the most spectacular displays of Northern Lights seen in decades, according to Mail Online.

While the December 28th and 29th solar flares will bring beauty by the way of the night light show, it is also expected to play havoc with radio waves blacking out some electronics.

Expected to fall victim to the solar flares are devices that depend on radio waves like GPS systems, radios and cell phones. Possible blackouts for these devices are expected periodically until December 31st.

Another big solar flare occurred in August, but because it was not on the side of the sun that’s facing the earth, the earth did not feel the effects expected with these latest solar flares.
