Massive ice boulders have washed up on shore in Michigan. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has ice boulders all over it, presenting local residents with a very odd sight indeed. According to a report from Wednesday (Feb. 27), hundreds of these chunks of ice are lining up on the northern Michigan shore.
Within the report are some amazing pictures, showing ice boulders even bigger than the dogs accompanying the onlookers. It's an interesting feat of nature that takes place when big chunks of ice break away from the ice floes on Lake Michigan. The wind and waves of the lake then churn the ice chunks into these almost smooth balls which later wash on shore.
At first glimpse, the massive ice boulders in Michigan almost resemble what dinosaur eggs look like in science fiction films. It's almost hard to imagine that nature has been able to create them without the help of man and the rarity of people being able to see them makes it an even more interesting event.
One local resident, Leda Olmsted, said it best when describing what she saw when she walked he dogs down to the beach. Olmsted stated that, "I thought it was the coolest thing ever especially since I've never seen anything like it." There certainly aren't news stories like this in other cold places around the U.S.
