According to Wednesday's publication of the Boston Herald, an Oakham, Mass., man who shot his neighbor's dog with an arrow, must pay thousands in veterinary fees.

On Tuesday, in Western Worcester District Court, 36-year-old Byron Carpenter was ordered to pay $5,400 in veterinary bills for the Oct. 23 shooting of a border collie/Labrador retriever mix named "Oboe."

Carpenter also lost his hunting license for a year for the incident.

Carpenter's lawyer stated that Carpenter "feels great remorse" for the shooting, which took place on the property where the dog lived.

According to the authorities, the shooting happened because Carpenter was tired of the dog's barking - he told the investigators that he shot at a shadow, fearing that it was a coyote.

Oboe was seriously wounded in one of his legs, but has since made a full recovery.
