The 9th Annual Massachusetts Conference for Women held at the Boston Convention Center held Thurdsay, December 5, attracted over 1,000 women. This year’s theme, “The Power of Us” was intended to help women define their own success and inspire them to chart their own path by empowering them with like-minded businesswomen.
Some of the guest speakers which headlined the event were actress, Kerry Washington, star of the wildly popular television show Scandal. It was reported that a couple of days before the conference, Washington had to cancel her appearance due to undisclosed circumstances. She was, however, able to deliver her speech via satellite. Rumors circulated that a possible pregnancy was the cause of Washington inability to fly.
Washington was not the only keynote speaker who was unable to attend the event. "Good Morning America’s" co-anchor, Robin Roberts signed on at the last minute as a keynote speaker, no doubt to supplement Washington’s absence. Unfortunately, it was also reported that Robert’s flight was delayed rendering her unable to attend the conference as well. As a result, she also had to attend the conference via satellite.
The View's former co-host, Star Jones participated as an attendee. In light of the physical absence of some of the major headliners, it could be said that guests would not have been disappointed if Jones had approached the podium with a few words of inspiration.
Despite the kinks, The Massachusetts Conference for Women appeared to be yet another successful event. Other speakers who were able to attend the event included 2011 Nobel Peace Laureate, Leymah Gbowee, author and historian, Doris Kearns Goodwin, TOMS founder and Amazing Race participant, Blake Mycoskie, New York Times best-seller, Susan Cain, and many others delivering motivational messages.
