The Massachusetts version of the "cash for appliances" stimulus plan got off to a rocky start this morning when tens of thousands of callers jammed the Mass Save Great Appliance Exchange program number and website visitors overwhelmed the system.
Appliance rebate seekers can receive up to $675 in incentives to buy freezers, refrigerators, dishwasher and clothes washers by making a reservation to receive on the Mass Save website or by calling 1 (877) MA-SWAP-1. The program began at 10 a.m. on April 22, 2010, an Earth Day promotion that kicks off a two-week shopping spree for appliances, ending May 5, 2010.
As of 12:20 p.m. on April 22 the Mass Save website for the appliance stimulus promotion was not working, and the telephone line was busy.
Area appliance retailers such as Framingham-based Belcher's Appliance Center and Natick Appliance Inc. are participants in the program. Refrigerator rebates are $200 while freezer rebates are $50.
