Best new artist, best rap song, Best Performance and Best Album went to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, which should not surprise anyone who has been within ear’s reach of a radio. This duo has dominated the charts throughout the year with songs like “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us”.

Aside from their musical success, Macklemore is also making headlines for their performance of “Same Love” on the Grammys last night during which 34 couples, both gay and straight, were married by Queen Latifah. Madonna joined Macklemore on stage and performed her classic single “Open Your Heart”.

One of the best things about the music industry is its ever changing landscape. Bands like Macklemore can come seemingly out of nowhere and explode onto the music scene inviting change into not only the industry, but the world as a whole.

Going from unknown to a mainstream presence across media is not an easy task, but this duo has made it seem effortless. We can only wait to see how this group grows and progresses in the future.
