Become a Mass Audubon Citizen Scientist for a Weekend
Mass Audubon relies heavily on its citizen scientists to gather data on wildlife around the state. Here on Cape Cod Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary uses citizen scientists to help with projects such as monitoring osprey nests and horseshoe crab populations. At Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Cape Cod based citizen scientists walk the beaches to look for cold–stunned sea turtles in the fall.
Focus on Feeders has been offering everyone a chance to be a citizen scientist for a weekend for the past 40 years. From this weekend long event they have been able to learn a great deal about changes in bird populations. How Mass Audubon’s Focus on Feeders Works
Go to the Mass Audubon Focus on Feeders page to download the report form. On the weekend of February 5 and 6 just note the birds you see at your feeder and take a few pictures. Send your list in to Mass Audubon, along with your best photos and have a chance to win prizes. There will be a drawing from all people who participate in the Focus on Feeders project and a contest with prizes for the best photos.
