As confirmation hearings begin today for prospective Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, many Marylanders have already weighed in on the issue.
- The law school deans of the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore both signed on to a letter of numerous law school deans supporting Kagan earlier this month. However, when asked why they supported Kagan’s confirmation, neither dean responded to inquiries.
- University of Baltimore law professor Garrett Epps wrote an article in The Atlantic entitled “Why Kagan Shouldn’t Be Cautious.”
- The Baltimore Sun editorial board wrote an editorial criticizing Republicans taking part in Kagan’s confirmation hearings.
- One Sun reader wrote a letter arguing for the rejection of Kagan because of her admiration of Israeli Chief Justice Aharon Barak.
