"Howard County authorities say three people have been confirmed dead at the Mall in Columbia and the suburban shopping center remains on lockdown as police investigate the multiple shooting," according to The Washington post today (January 25).
"Police said that they have confirmed one of the dead people was located near a gun and ammunition but that they have not yet identified the person. They said they believe one of those slain is the shooter, according to the department’s Twitter account," added the report on http://www.washingtonpost.com.
"Police said that the mall is “believed to be secure” but those inside have been instructed to wait for further guidance from authorities," according to the report.
Mall building was on lockdown
"Workers at stores in the mall said the building was on lockdown as of shortly after noon. An employee at Rafet’s Hairmasters, who declined to be identified, said she heard the shooting had taken place near the mall’s Sears store, which is adjacent to the food court," added The Washington Post. At 12:30 p.m., according to reports, the police were trying to calm the crowds of shoppers out of the mall premises.
