Maryland green events: TreeKeepers, naturalist training, and other events

Blue Water Baltimore and Baltimore County Environmental Protection and Sustainability (EPS) are sponsoring the Middle Gwynns Falls Community Watershed Meeting on March 6 at the Randallstown Community Center. It will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants will learn about the current condition of the watershed and the Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) intended to improve both the community and local water quality. Retrofit Baltimore is holding a spring energy meeting on March 6 at the Govans Presbyterian Church. It will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants will learn about the year-round benefits of retrofitting, how the changing seasons affect one's home, and how to prepare for summer. Volunteer Naturalist training will start on March 7 at the Irvine Nature Center. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from March 7 to March 21. The hours are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to lead field trips for school groups. Topics will include field trip themes, teaching techniques, and natural history. No experience is necessary. The training will count towards Master Naturalist certification hours. For more information, call Courtney Sagal at (443) 738-9224.

TreeKeepers will hold its first class, "TreeKeepers 101: Trees and Baltimore" on March 7 in the Vollmer Center at the Cylburn Arboretum. It will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. TreeKeepers is a new city-wide tree stewardship program. "TreeKeepers 101" will give an overview of the program, information on local tree laws, and statistics on Baltimore's trees. Aspiring TreeKeepers must take both TreeKeepers 101 and TreeKeepers 102. (TreeKeepers 102 will be held on March 16.) Afterwards, TreeKeepers will then be certified to plant and maintain city trees and help lead other volunteers at tree planting events.
