Maryland green events: National Arboretum, urban farming, and other events

ECO City Farm seeks volunteers to help plant their crops on March 2 at their farm in Edmonston. The hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ECO City Farms is a non-profit intended to serve as a prototype for sustainable urban farming. All experience levels are welcome; there will be staff available to answer questions and help novices. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Sierra Club seeks volunteers to remove invasive plants at the Little Paint Branch Park and the Cherry Hill Road Community Park in Beltsville on March 2. The hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will learn the parks' natural history, plant identification methods, and the reasons for removing invasive plants. Volunteers should meet at the Beltsville Community Center parking lot and wear long pants and long sleeves. Gloves and tools will be provided. The Maryland Native Plant Society is offering a field trip to the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. on March 3. The hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will explore Mt. The Sierra Club seeks volunteers to man an information table at the Maple Festival in Westminster on March 3. The hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers would be informing festival-goers about local environmental issues. The Festival will be held at the Hashawha Environmental Center.
