Maryland Democrats get schooled in Twitter town hall on sequestration

On Thursday, Democratic members of the Maryland congressional delegation participated in a Twitter town hall on the sequestration. But, Twitchy said, they got a "tweetful" when constituents sent the #AskMDDems hashtag trending with their questions.

"#Sequester is a giant meat cleaver about 2 descend on core services for middle-class families that will make the economy worse," tweeted Rep. Elijah Cummings.

One person responded by saying that a two percent reduction is "not a 'meat cleaver.'"

Another person told Cummings that he and his fellow Democrats have been "missing in action" for the last 18 months.

"Need balanced approach that won’t cripple our economy or weaken America’s strength here or abroad (2/2)," tweeted Sen. Barbara Mikulski.

"We are already insolvent. No more BALANCED APPROACH, stop stealing from my kids," one person said in response.

The questions kept pouring in to the east coast Democrats, Twitchy said.

"When is the Senate going to pass a budget?" one person asked.

"Why did President Obama, whom you all support, endorse the sequester in the first place?" asked another person.

"Why did you exempt yourself from Obamacare?" asked "Matt Sauvage."

Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a Republican representing Maryland's 1st District, had a few questions of his own.

"Should Members of Congress get paid if they don't do their job? (ie pass a budget)" he asked.
"Do the Democrats in the MD delegation agree w/ @NancyPelosi that government spending is not a problem?"

"Just last month I was asked to get by [with] 2% less, WHY can't Govt do same this month?" one person asked Rep. Chris Van Hollen.

"Do u think citizens are stupid and don't see the game u play? Cut in increase is not a cut," one person tweeted, using the hashtag #lowinfovoters, a reference to "low information voters," a phrase made popular by talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Fox News reported Friday that Congress missed the deadline to avert the automatic cuts, but assured site visitors that "if you’re reading this, odds are you’ve survived."
