Mary Travers, age 72, died today of Leukemia.
"The band's publicist, Heather Lylis, says Travers died at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut on Wednesday. She was 72 and had battled leukemia for several years.." (AP)
A folk-pop singer, she was influential in the 60's and 70's, shaping society with her song.
Active politically the group helped shape a generation with their music lyrics. "Blowing in the Wind" and "If I had a Hammer" were popular songs portraying the group's politicall views of peace and love. Peace was the theme of the 60's and Mary sang about peace in America for many years.
Other songs that were popular were the "Lemon Tree" and a personal favorite with Mary's voice clearly singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane".
