Mary Travers, from Peter, Paul and Mary, died Wednesday at 72. She battled leukemia for several years and died at a nearby hospital. There are several unconfirmed reports that the funeral will take place today, but information has yet to be released on Mary Travers website about it.
Travers joined Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey in the 1960s to form the famous folk singing group Peter, Paul and Mary. Some of their famous songs were If I Had a Hammer, Lemon Tree, Leaving on a Jet Plane, and Puff the Magic Dragon. The group collected five Grammy Awards, according to the Associated Press.
Travers had a successful bone marrow transplant for leukemia and was able perform after that.
"It was like a miracle," Travers told The Associated Press in 2006. "I'm just feeling fabulous. What's incredible is someone has given your life back. I'm out in the garden today. This time last year I was looking out a window at a hospital." She also said she told the marrow donor "how incredibly grateful I was."
But by mid-2009, Mary Travers condition had worsened and she was no longer able to perform. Travers lived in Redding, Conn, and is survived by her husband, Ethan Robbins and daughters, Alicia and Erika, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
