Mary Jane Morris from Northwest Middle School in Salt Lake City will received Utah's 2010 Teacher of the Year award.
Mary Jane Morris was surprised by State Superintendent Larry Shumway on Tuesday, when he announced that she would be given the award at a November 6 banquet. Morris will receive the award her work on the school's AVID program which helps prepare students for college, and for the way she uses culture in her lessons.
Morris will receive a $10,000 check and a SMART Board interactive white board, and each of the three runners up will receive $3,000.
