Mary J. Blige is dealing with some family drama involving her dad and his ex-girlfriend. The R&B superstar’s father is in critical condition after being stabbed by his ex-girlfriend, according to a Jan. 24 ABC News report.
According to NBC News, 63-year-old Thomas Blige was assaulted by Cheryl Ann White, and is recovering following surgery for neck stabbing at a Michigan hospital. 50-year-old White has been charged with assault with intent to commit murder and is being held in jail.
The domestic dispute took place on Thursday morning at the home of the Grammy-winning singer’s dad’s home in Battle Creek, ABC News reports. Detective Sgt. Jim Martens told the Battle Creek Enquirer that officers recovered a knife and found the ex-girlfriend with blood on her clothing.
According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, police were called to Thomas Blige’s apartment in the early hours of Thursday morning, where they found him with three stab wounds, including one to his neck. He was rushed to Bronson Battle Creek, followed by Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo where he underwent surgery.
This is not the first domestic dispute between the Blige and his former girlfriend. Martens said police have handled seven domestic violence complaints between the two since August.
Mary J. Blige has not yet spoken out on her father’s assault. This was meant to be a celebratory week for the singer who is nominated for an award at Sunday’s Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with rap artist Kendrick Lamar.
