R&B singer Mary J. Blige's father was stabbed Thursday morning in Battle Creek, Mich. after a domestic dispute with a former girlfriend, according to police. USA Today reports Jan. 23 that Thomas Blige, 63, was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck. He remains in the hospital and his ex-girlfriend, 50, is being held on assault charges with intent to murder.
The father of Mary J. Blige was found with three stab wounds after police responded to a call at an apartment complex around 6:58 a.m. Blood was found outside in the snow with more inside the apartment. They also found a knife they believe was used in the attack. When police went to Blige's ex-girlfriend's apartment, they found her in blood-spattered clothing. She was apprehended and treated for a cut wound.
It is believed that the suspect was outside puncturing the tires of Blige's SUV in the parking lot and attacked him after he confronted her. They likely got into a fight then the woman stabbed him. The two have a history of seven domestic violence complaints filed against them since August.
Mary J. Blige must be relieved that her father did not die from being stabbed. Serious wounds like that are often deadly.
