According to Fox News, Marvin Winans, pastor of Perfecting Church in Detroit has denied the dedication of a 2-year-old boy, Joshua, because his mother is unwed, Thursday, Oct. 17. A baby dedication service is planned this Sunday, and Charity Grace alleges that her son can not be included.
Grace is not too happy with the policy of Perfecting Church, and doesn’t plan to step foot in there now.
She says, “I never felt so degraded and disrespected in my life…I absolutely would not set foot back in the church right now because I feel they look down on me and my kind, meaning single moms and unwed mothers…”
She further explained that when she contacted the church, an individual in authority explained the policy of the church to her. The staff personnel stated that the baby could be dedicated in a private setting with an Elder of her choice.
Doesn’t appear that Grace was given an explanation as to why they don’t allow a public child dedication; that would have been nice.
Churches vary in their baby dedication practice; where one church allows a public dedication and another doesn’t allow this practice.
