Timely Publishing was a small New York comic book company that began publishing "joke books" back in the 1930's. However, by the 1960's, the tiny company was making some big changes, not just within, but changes that would rock the entire comic book industry. One of their first changes was in name. Timely became Marvel and the rest as they say is history.
The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Iron Man and the rest have been populating the comic book racks for a little over 50 years, so you can imagine every true believer's surprise when Marvel announced that they were going to publish a 100th Anniversary Special edition comic.
Fear not, here's the 411 on the whole 100th anniversary deal. Marvel Comics is publishing a sort of what if comic, giving fans what they call a "sneak peek into the future". What will Marvel Comics be like in the year 2061? Find out in their 100th Anniversary limited series, which is set to hit comic shops (and digitally) in July.
The special limited series takes a look at their greatest heroes— The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fantastic Four, X-Men and Spider-Man— and how they will evolve over the next 50 years, taking readers to a drastically different Marvel Universe. Each will get their own separate 100th anniversary issue, yet all will fit into this future Marvel Universe.
Get it? Got it? Good.
What do you think of Marvel's 100th Anniversary plans? Are you down for the celebration, or are you a party pooper?
