Marvel's 'Ant-Man': Paul Rudd confirmed to star

On Thursday, December 19 Comingsoon.net posted the news that Marvel Studios have confirmed that actor Paul Rudd will star as the lead character in "Ant-Man," the highly anticipated comic book movie which is scheduled to release in theaters in 2015. The casting comes after weeks of speculation that Rudd was the studio's top pick for the role.

The film will be the twelfth in Marvel's Cinematic Universe and kick off Phase Three. The character of Ant-Man is one of the founding member of The Avengers and his real name is Henry Pym. He is a scientist who develops a substance which allows him to shrink to the size of an ant and communicates with insect by wearing a telepathic helmet.

Rudd's most recent film roles include "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," "Anchorman," and "This is 40," as well as "Role Models," "I Love You, Man," "Our Idiot Brother," "Knocked Up," and several other comedy films. The film will be Rudd's first time portraying a superhero. The plot of the upcoming film is being keep under wraps but casting calls have hinted that the film will include both Henry Pym and Scott Lang.

"Ant-Man" is expected to release in theaters on July 31, 2015 and will be directed by Edgar Wright. The film was pushed up to a summer release and will have to face off in the box office with Zack Snyder's "Batman vs. Superman," "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," and several others.

The action adventure will be produced by Marvel Studios and written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. The script has been in development for nearly a decade and has been modified to fit into the cinematic universe. Production on the film is expected to begin in May around the Atlanta area.
