The Hollywood Reporter confirmed today that ABC’S Agents of Shield has cast GI Joe: Retaliation and Friday Night Lights alum Adrianne Palicki to play Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird for the second season. Palicki will appear in a recurring role starting with the fifth episode.

The debut of Mockingbird was first teased at this year’s Comic-Con during the Agents of Shield panel. ABC played a video clip featuring Patton Oswalt, who plays recurring characters Agents Billy and Sam Koenig, possibly hinting that some form of Life Model Decoys exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and suggested that Mockingbird could appear in the upcoming season. The video can be seen here.

Palicki will not be the only major guest star appearing on Agents of Shield second season. Other confirmed guest starts include: Kyle MacLachlan as Skye's (Chloe Bennet) father, Lucy Lawless as SHIELD veteran Isabelle Hartly, Reed Diamond as Hydra villain Daniel Whitehall (aka Kraken), Nick Blood as a mercenary Coulson reaches out to for help, Henry Simmons as agent Alphonso "Mac" Mackenzie, and Simon Kassianides as Bakshi.

The casting comes after Palicki reteamed with Friday Night Lights creator Jason Katims on NBC’s About a Boy, playing a love interest for Davil Walton’s character Will. She will also return to the NBC comedy for its second season. Her other television credits include playing Sam’s ill-fated girlfriend Jessica in the pilot for Supernatural, the faux Kara on Smallville, Nadia in the WB Aquaman pilot, and she famously played Wonder Woman for NBC’s David E. Kelley pilot.

Adrianne Palicki will return to the silver screen this October opposite Keanu Reeves in Summit’s John Wick, and indie film Baby, Baby, Baby, and she is also expected to reprise her role as Lady Jaye in GI Joe 3.

For Marvel fans, Mockingbird is famously known for teaming up with fellow SHIELD Agent and Avenger Hawkeye, (In the comics they are romantically involved and originally lead the West Coast Avengers), so it could be possible that Palicki could appear in any upcoming Marvel film. It would not hurt to speculate since crossing over Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Agents of Shield helped improve the show’s freshman season. That’s fan boy speculation. Agents of Shield is executive produced by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb. Season 2 will premiere on September 23 on ABC.
