The second episode of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" aired Tuesday, but lacked the steam the first episode contained.
This episode revolved around Coulson's group of Agents investigating an 0-8-4, an object of unknown origin. When they arrive on scene in Peru to begin their investigation, they're ambushed by a rebel group and take heavy fire. Coulson's old flame, Camilla Reyes, arrives in time to help deflect some of the gun fire and allow both Coulson and her own team to get to the plane with the object and leave Peru.
Once on board, however, things change considerably. Reyes betrays Coulson and takes the team hostage. She demands the object from Coulson, declaring his team to be too green to be effective.
Little does she know the team has worked out a way to escape from the cargo hold they're imprisoned in. They take down Reyes' team thus allowing Coulson to take Reyes into custody. They then deliver the object to the assigned S.H.I.E.L.D. facility. As Skye was a valuable asset during the mission, the team considers turning her into a S.H.I.E.L.D. asset permanently. As she mulls over the prospect, she receives a text message from the Rising Tide asking her if she's still in on their mission. She looks around hesitantly then texts back that she is, indeed, still on board.
High points of the episode:
- A surprising guest star at episode's end.
- May's surprising abilities which help the team escape their situation.
Low points of the episode:
- Fitz and Simmons aren't clearly defined characters. As they're usually referred to as a pair and aren't being fully developed, yet, viewers may be confused on which character is which.
- Ward seemed to accept Skye a little too easily after being so suspicious of her motives earlier.
- Once again, the gadgets used by Fitz and Simmons served as a minor distraction in their scenes.
So what did you think of this episode? Did you expect Reyes to turn? Do you think Skye will betray the S.H.I.E.L.D. team? What did you think of May's resourcefulness? What did you think about the surprise cameo at the end of the episode?
