Marvel wasted no time releasing the first image from the set of "Ant-Man" - just one day after filming began in San Francisco.
The official Marvel Entertainment twitter account tweeted the first look at Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, the titular character in the forthcoming Marvel movie. Rudd's character is described as a petty criminal turned superhero after acquiring an experimental substance which allows him to shrink in size and increase his strength.
"Ant-Man" began principle filming Aug. 18 in San Francisco after a series of production setbacks, which included having to replace initial director Edgar Wright ("Shaun of the Dead"), who walked away from the film in late May due to "creative differences." Director Peyton Reed ("Yes Man") was brought on to take Wright's place and noted comedy writer Adam McKay ("Anchorman" and "Talladega Nights") rewrote several scenes.
Michael Douglas will play Dr. Hank Pym, inventor of the "Pym Particles," and "Lost" star Evangeline Lilly will play his daughter Hope Van Dyne.
This comes just one day after Marvel also announced John Slattery, TI and Judy Greer officially joined the cast of "Ant-Man" in undisclosed roles.
Looking ahead into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens May 1, 2015, which will close out the so-called "Phase 2" of Marvel films. "Phase 3" kicks off with the release of "Ant-Man," followed by "Captain America 3" on May 6, 2016, "Doctor Strange" July 8, 2016 and "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" in July 28, 2017.
"Ant-Man" is scheduled to hit theaters July 17, 2015.
