Revealed earlier today via the Associated Press, Marvel has announced that they will be adding three new titles to their Ultimate universe – All-New Ultimates, Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, and Ultimate FF. Intended to give a much needed boost to the publisher’s 14-year old Ultimate line, the titles are part of Marvel’s new Ultimate Marvel NOW! initiative which will begin to roll out in April just as the events of Marvel’s Cataclysm come to a close.

Brian Michael Bendis has been quoted as saying that the events at the end of ‘Cataclysm’ are “so huge that it changes the entire landscape. It creates a place that demands a fresh start from everyone who surveys it.”

Bendis will remain with the Ultimates line by writing Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man while being joined by artist David Marquez, both of whom were the creative team for the recent Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man series. In addition to his solo title, Miles Morales will also be leading a team of super-powered teenagers in All-New Ultimates, a new series from writer Michel Fiffe and illustrator Amilcar Pinna. The team will also be joined by Kitty Pryde, Bombshell, Cloak and Dagger, and Jessica Drew, the former Ultimate Spider-Woman who will now be taking up the mantle of Black Widow.

The third title is Ultimate FF, which will be helmed by writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and illustrator Mario Guevara and will follow the main members of the Future Foundation. Fialkov describes the group as “a team of geniuses, four of the smartest people in the Ultimate universe,” that will include Sue Storm, Tony Stark and a mysterious character that Fialkov only described as “a psychopath.”

“Once again, we’re destroying something and building something new, but there’s an end game in sight,” says Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso. “We created the line to take chances.”

The three new titles, all of which will carry the “Ultimate Marvel NOW!” banner, will roll out their first issues in April, 2014.
