Marvel Comics and George Romero are teaming up for a new zombie comic book series called “Empire of the Dead.” According to Comics Alliance on Oct. 4, the zombie comic will debut in 2014.
“Empire of the Dead” will feature art work by Alex Maleev (“Daredevil”) and there will be a variant cover drawn by Arthur Suydam (“Marvel Zombies”). George Romero (”Night of the Living Dead”) himself will write the comic book.
There was a tease in 2012 around Comic-Con that year, and some thought the viral marketing was indicating that a major Marvel Comics character was going to die, but after Marvel said that they were in talks with Romero about teaming up on something, many figured out that a new zombie comic book might be coming.
This is the official announcement of that zombie comic book. Romero will show up at the New York Comic Con to talk about the new series and give out more information.
Right now, what is known about “Empire of the Dead” is that the zombies are only one predator in the comic and there will be another introduced in the post-plague New York setting. “Empire of the Dead” should arrive in January 2014.
