Feb. 17, 2012, Marvel announced it will be launching a new comic book line starting in April 2012. The debut of the Marvel Universe line marks the beginning of an attempt to draw in younger readers. Marvel over the past 20 years has trended towards older readers with graphic fight scenes, sexy covers and provocative costumes.
The first two titles to be release will be Marvel Universe: Ultimate Spider-Man #1 and Marvel Universe: The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes #1(see slideshow for covers). Both comics seem to be modeled from their animated TV series on Disney XD. Both covers have a very cartoony felling to the art work. In the past, attempts to create comic books based off of animated TV shows have resulted in failure with low readership and even lower sales. This leaves the question of will this comic line actually led to an increased readership by young readers or will it led to another failed attempt at creating comic books based off of TV shows?
