Just when you thought the Marvel cinematic universe could not get any bigger, it does.

Marvel Studios announced today that they are releasing a film on May 4, 2018. This is the third film that the studio has set for a 2018 release.

The May 4, 2018 release was previously occupied by Sony’s “Amazing Spider-Man 4,” however Sony announced today that they pushed back “Amazing Spider-Man 3” from 2016 to 2018 leaving the fate of “Amazing Spider-Man 4” unknown and the May 4, 2018 slot vacant.

News of a third Marvel Studios release in 2018 comes off hot off the heels of a huge announcement last week where the studio dated five untitled films. The dates from the films are June 28, 2017, November 3, 2017, July 6, 2018, November 2, 2018 and May 3, 2019.

No official word as to what film Marvel put in that May 4, 2018 release date, but due to the three year gap the release is from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” it is more than likely the third “Avengers” film.

Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel are increasingly aggressive with marking their territory--with the playing field getting crowded with both Warner Bros.--Marvel is making a power play for comic book movie supremacy.

This increased aggression may be due in part to Warner Bros. slating “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” for May 6. 2018, a date that is also held by “Captain America 3.” Many believe Warner will move “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” however, they already have riled up the competition.
