This week’s episode of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” really turned things up when the television show tied in directly to the events of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” According to The Hollywood Reporter on April 9, “Agents of SHIELD” has booked Cobie Smulders to return to the show as her character Agent Maria Hill.
Of course, after the events of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Maria Hill is no longer a SHIELD agent and is now working for Tony Stark’s corporation. Smulders just completed her run on “How I Met Your Mother” and will return to “Agents of SHIELD” for an episode on April 29. It will be her second appearance on the Marvel television show.
According to executive producer Jeffrey Bell, Maria Hill will be working for Stark Industries when she appears on the show, but will be thrown into action with Agent Phil Coulson, someone who is not willing to let go of his duties for SHIELD despite its destruction. There also might be some conflict here after the death of SHIELD agent Victoria Hand on this week’s episode.
The episode will be the 20th of the season and will follow the relationship between the former SHIELD agent and Coulson following the fallout from “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” It will also deal with whether or not Maria Hill was also involved in the giant lie about Coulson dying in “The Avengers” and the faked TAHITI memories.
This is the second big appearance over the last quarter of the “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” premiere season. Also returning to “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” this season is Nick Fury himself. Samuel L. Jackson will show up in the final episode of the season, and this is probably where Agent Coulson will be looking for answers.
“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” airs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
