Over at Marvel.com, Marvel has just announced that it is relaunching the all-ages Marvel Adventures line starting in April, with Spider-Man #1 by Paul Tobin & Matteo Lolli and Super Heroes #1 by Tobin and Ronan Qliquet.
From Marvel’s press release:
Marvel is proud to announce a bold new beginning for the critically acclaimed Marvel Adventures line with Spider-Man #1 and Super Heroes #1! Perfect for readers of all ages, these two all-new series are the perfect jumping on point for readers new and old with oversized debut issues, packed with a full length all-new stories and bonus back up stories, just like the comics from when you were a kid!
The relaunch of the line seems to be an attempt to capitalize on the Iron Man 2 movie and Free Comic Book Day in May, as both new titles will have still have their first issues on display.
At this point it is unclear how the new titles will be much different from their predecessors, as Paul Tobin will be writing both, and there is no clue in Marvel’s press release or solicitation copy about whether these new titles will feature stand-alone stories or continuing plotlines.
The Marvel Adventures line has had difficulty maintaining an identity since its inception. Originally intended to retell classis Marvel stories for a new generation, the line quickly abandoned that concept for original stories and an all-ages audience. Last year the line contracted to jusst two titles as Marvel Adventures Spider-Man adopted an ongoing continuity. The final issues of Marvel Adventures Spider-Man and Marvel Adventures Super Heroes will ship in March, with the first issues of Spider-Man and Super Heroes scheduled to ship sometime in April.
