Thousands lined the streets of Downtown Jacksonville on Monday, Jan 21st to watch the annual Martin Luther King Parade. The parade started at 11 a.m. at the Federal Reserve Bank. There were color guards, clowns, marching bands and motorcycle groups at the event. The parade celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King.
Florida Govenor Rick Scott led the Martin Luther King Parade. Mayor Alvin Brown was in the parade, but was also in the crowd during parts of the event greeting and shaking peoples hands.
"It's a wonderful day, honoring a great person," Scott said. "Everybody should live their dreams. I reread the MLK speech every so often, just so I can think about what we should be doing."
The parade route stretched from Water Street past the Jacksonville Landing to North Bay Street then past the Jacksonville Sheriff Office Building to end at Metroplitan Park where the Gospel Music Festival was scheduled. CeCe Winans performed at the event. As the parade came to a close, parade watchers cheered as the words of the famous " I Have A Dream" speech that King gave in 1963 rang through the streets.
