Martin Luther King Jr. Day Breakfast in Columbus and Westerville

In 1985 the first Martin Luther King Jr. Day Breakfast in Columbus brought together around 200 people to celebrate the life and legacy of the man behind the new holiday. Twenty-seven years later this year’s annual breakfast is expected to draw thousands of people, as it continues to be the largest event of its kind in the country. The Martin Luther King Breakfast Committee, Inc. invites the public to this Columbus signature King Holiday event attended by thousands of diverse supporters.

This year’s Keynote Speaker is the The Reverend Dr. Otis Moss, Jr., theologian, pastor and civic leader is one of America’s most influential leaders. As co-pastor with Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA, Rev. Moss served as board member and Regional Director of SCLC during Dr. King’s tenure as founding president.  Reverend Moss also served as national board member and trustee of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Non-violent Social Change.  Join us as Reverend Moss marks Martin Luther King Day by promoting equal rights for all Americans and the work of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the struggle against racial segregation and racism.

Westerville MLK Breakfast

Monday, January 16, 2012, marks the seventh annual Westerville Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast celebration. The public is cordially invited to join the event’s planning committee for a morning of unity and celebration. Scott Marier, Executive Director of WARM (Westerville Area Resource Ministry), is honorary co-chair for the 2012 celebration. The theme for the breakfast is “The Dream Lives On: A Tribute to Hope.”

The celebration includes the fifth annual Fouse and Alston Awards, which recognize students and community members who have put the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. into action. Keynote presenter Valarie Holmes,  historian from New Port News, Virginia will offer a dramatic interpretation of the relevance of Dr. King’s dream and enduring message of hope and determination.
