Most banks are closed on federal holidays, but there are a few exceptions.
Many of the larger banks, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase and Citibank will be closed on Martin Luther King Day. Credit Unions vary, but most will be closed.
TD Bank is open on MLK Day. In fact, this bank is open on four federal holidays, including President's Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day.
Some banks open their supermarket branches on federal holidays. Some Citizens Bank grocery store branches were open limited hours on certain holidays, but it's always best to call ahead to be sure.
As with most holidays, when banks are closed you'll be limited to using an ATM to get cash and online banking or a mobile banking app to pay bills or check your balance online.
This year, Martin Luther King Day falls on a Monday. However, when a federal holiday falls on a Sunday, all Federal Reserve offices will be closed the following Monday.
