The mask a goaltender wears has become as exciting as the moves the player wearing it makes in his crease. Sometimes the graphics tell a story, while other times it tells a lot about the player donning it.
With the NHL Stadium Series approaching at the end of this month, goaltenders from both the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers released pictures of their new head gear this week, and neither goalie disappointed.
For New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, it’s all about simplicity.
The Devils’ goalie released a series of pictures earlier this week, featuring the chrome edition Devils logo in their original red, green and white colors. His signature “MB30” can be found throughout the entire mask and as always, the initials of his five children aren’t far either.
The finishing touch on the back of the mask is the initials of Martin Brodeur's late father, Denis Brodeur, who passed away prior to the season's start.
On the other end of the ice, Henrik Lundqvist went all out in true New York fashion, combining the best of his hockey club in Manhattan with some of the best ball players the Bronx had ever seen.
Pictured on the right side of his mask are some of the greatest Yankees of all time-Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. Opposite of the former MLB stars is the most well known face around New York outside of sports, the Statue of Liberty.
Bringing it all together in front is the King's pinstriped crown, from his personal Crown Collection.
There’s also been some talk about pinstripe goalie pads that Lundqvist could potentially sport in the Bronx. There’s been no word from the goalie himself yet.
NHL Stadium Series- New York Rangers vs New Jersey Devils- will take place on Jan. 26th at Yankee Stadium.
