Famed journalist and beloved television host Martin Bashir has a brain tumor. He became a household name in 1995 when he interviewed Princess Diana.
Bashier was first diagnosed in 2008 and has been living day to day with the tumor while maintaining his busy schedule as an anchor for MSNBC and guest-host for a variety of other shows on the network including The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell.
The tumor itself is not life threatening and is not growing. It does not impair Bashir regularly, but he says it can frustrate him occasionally and it is an ongoing situation.
When asked why he missed hosting his show on Jan. 18 Mr. Bashir confirmed that his absence was due to a flareup with the tumor. He calmly explained in answering a question from FishbowlDC:
I have a brain tumor. It’s fine, but it causes a problem from time to time.
