Martial Arts Fitness on Labor Day

First Strike System Front Kick

Just because it's Labor Day, does not mean that you need to binge on unhealthy foods, take a break from exercising and then feel badly about it later.  If you are a martial artist, then you already perform great toning exercises when you kick, punch and spar.

Take a few minutes and perform the Front Kick.  Start in sparring or ready stance, feet are shoulder-width apart one foot in front of another. Make sure that your hands are up, protecting your face. The key to the front kick is to make sure that you kick with the ball of your foot, the area right beneath your toes. Never kick with your toes or you can stand to harm them or even break them. So take a few minutes, out of your holiday weekend and do 2 sets of 10 repetitions each with both legs. To make your workout more challenging, do one set kicking with the rear leg and the second set kicking with the front leg.

Make sure that you drink plenty of water as well. It's always a good idea to drink some water before your workout (although not too much), during your workout and afterwards. Also, eat a protein-pottasium filled snack such as a banana and a spoonful of peanutbutter right afterwards. This will help with muscle recovery.
