Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) gave 100 employees the pink slip this week. Security guards from Stewart’s empire escorted fired employees off the premises after they were given their notices, according to New York Post reports on Dec. 12.
The newly affected ex-staff were allowed to pack up all their office belongings using complimentary MSLO tote bags as a parting gift.
Terminated employees had no choice with the company’s swift exit plan; they were guided by security guards to leave promptly out of the building.
Phone calls to the company for their response in light of the upcoming holiday season were unanswered.
The New York Post also stated that existing staff were not allowed to address reporters about the matter.
Diva Martha Stewart continues to head Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia with a multi-million dollar salary; her status also allows for additional compensation to cover expenses for a personal assistant, driver, wardrobe, beauty supplies, attending media events to represent herself as a TV personality and the brand, according to the New York Post.
Stewart’s company stocks have lost value over the years with the brand's reputation with the most recent legal suit led by Macy’s Department Store against J.C. Penney and MSLO; they sued for providing the brand into their rival department store.
