The $5.5 million Marshbank Park project in West Bloomfield Township will include canoe and kayak access to Cass Lake, the largest lake in Oakland County, Michigan. Almost 2,000 feet of new direct park access to Cass Lake will be opened up with the project.
Cass Lake has a maximum depth of 123 ft and covers - 1, 280 acres. The lakes is bordered by the cities, villages, and townships of Waterford Township, West Bloomfield Township, Orchard Lake Village, and Keego Harbor. The majority of the Marshbank Park project’s cost is being paid via a millage passed in 2008.
The park has added environmentally friendly features in the infrastructure of the new buildings with detention ponds, bioswales and landscaping designed to remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water. Four new buildings are being added to the park, including an all-seasons shelter and a second picnic shelter for area residents. Geothermal wells and solar panels help power the park’s water heater.
