Marquez to fight Pacquiao and Gesta in 2012 says promoter

If you were to believe Fernando Beltran, Mexican fight promoter, Juan Manuel Marquez will be fighting Mercito Gesta and Manny Pacquiao this year.

During a Mexico City press conference to promoter Marquez’s April 14 fight against Serhiy Fedchenko, the first since a controversial defeat to Pacquiao, Beltran dropped the bombshell statement.

“Juan Manuel will fight Fedchenko en April, then on July 14 against Mercito Gesta at Cowboys Stadium, and in November the fourth fight with Pacquiao,” said Beltran.

Mr. Bob Arum, lead figure at Top Rank Promotions, which represents Gesta and Pacquiao, was not available for comment.

Beltran was a key figure in bringing Marquez to Top Rank last year, and securing the third fight between Marquez and Pacquiao.

While fights against Gesta and Pacquiao would be entertaining fare, they would also sink a possible, long awaited bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather for 2012.

There have also been murmurs of Marquez fighting Brandon Rios in the next few months.

It must be noted that Beltran also confirmed that neither of these bouts have been signed, but should be finalized in the near future.
