Marquez weighing in (AP Photo/Rick Bowmer)Not so long ago the first fighter looking to set up a bout after a Manny Pacquiao fight was Juan Manuel Marquez, who Pacquiao drew with and then beat in a razor thin split decision.
Certainly the fights were both close enough to warrant a third, although Pacquiao has since moved onto other things (and different weight classes). Marquez never quite seemed to get over the close loss in their second fight, and has been trying in vain to secure a third fight between the two ever since.
While Marquez's style presents a risk for Pacquiao, a third fight would simply not be a very big sell to the casual fans, who would have a tough time believing that a man Pacquiao has already beaten would pose a credible threat. Whether Pacquiao could easily even get back down to a fair weight class for Marquez to be able to look decent would be another concern.
Finally however, Marquez seems to have resigned himself to the fact that he probably won't ever get another crack at Pac-man, and is now in talks with fellow Pacquiao victim Ricky Hatton instead.
The fight will probably take place in Hatton's hometown of Manchester England at the Manchester Evening News center (where the UFC recently set a new MMA attendance record for Europe). The fight is still in the negotiations stage, but will likely take place at 140lbs, meaning Marquez will still have a marked size disadvantage against the Hitman.
Hatton had stated that he was taking a hiatus from boxing to concentrate on promoting shows, which many assumed was his way of unofficially retiring. After a guest spot presenting a WWE event in England however, Hatton had a change of heart and said afterward that he intended to get back into the ring as soon as possible.
On paper Hatton would seem like the obvious favorite, although a lot off time off as well as ballooning weight in between mean that this wouldn't be an easy fight for either fighter. Marquez's counter punching style would likely pose significant problems for a rusty Hatton, although his size advantage will probably carry him through. Marquez has decent punching power, but looked uncomfortable and bloated during his last fight against Floyd Mayweather. A back in shape and focused Hatton will probably overwhelm a slowed down and sluggish Juan Manual Marquez, but what Hatton will look like in his first fight back after his second loss is anyone's guess.

Marquez should get over his loss to Pacquiao and move on.
As far as the second fight result he should learn to accept a decision.
As far as the first fight he should realize that if the judge didn't screw up and score the first round 3 knockdown wrong he would have lost. Pacquiao has a better case going back to the organization and have them re-score that round as it was a technical error versus a judgement error and re-write the history books so that Pacquiao has two wins over Marquez.
Hatton should hire COACH ROACH. Roach will be in the UK for Amir's fight. Have a serious talk with the MASTER.
Roach likes Hatton too, but just wasn't sure if he change Hatton's bad habits. He's not a master for nothing though.
I prefer hatton vs cotto at 145 either in new york or england and who ever losses will retire. It is more explosive fight than hatton vs Marquez.
im sure marquez realized, that this version of pacquiao he can't handle. im sure if he really wanted to fight manny it would happen. i mean he made the mayweather fight happen. marquez stayed at 126 far to long he has himself and his team to blame for that. the curtain is closing and he see's that
yes... hatton vs. cotto a good match, better than marquez vs. hatton. marquez will be easily beaten by hatton..
marquez don't fight hatton.when you fight hatton i think this your end of your career..fight valero or guzman is good for you..also hatton dont fight cotto, cotto is smart fighter, but paquiao is too much smart, fast for cotto.hatton vs khan is a great match..
marquez would destroy hatton, mayweather couldnt KO a 36 year-old man to jump 2 weight classes, and mayweather KO ricky hatton, and marquez beat pacquiao in the seond fight so everything is all good.
losser vs losser
JMM: I think, u better retire now. It is a waste of time to watch any fight of yours.
I just wonder why the "draw" decision in the PACQUIAO VS MARQUEZ I should be allowed to remain in the records of boxing. It was very clear that after the fight, the judge publicly admitted his honest mistake in the computation of the scores in his scorecard. If corrected, the decision should have been, at least, a SPLIT DECISION in Pacquiao's favor. I just cannot understand why a wrong decision should be allowed to remain in the books. WHY PERPETUATE AN ERRONEOUS ENTRY IN HISTORY? And this Marquez - who kissed the canvass 4 times, courtesy of Manny - keeps on harping that he never lost to Pacquiao and even had the temerity to come to the Philippines and was asking, or was it BEGGING, from the Pacman for a rematch, at the same, declaring that he never lost to the Pacman.
JMM, you're a good counter puncher, and i think beating Ricky would be a walk in the park for you now since he got beat by the Pacman. He got hit so hard in the second round that up to now he's still out of his senses, he still thinks he was leading the Pacman in the second round before he got floored. Wow, how long will it take for him to realize that he never really did anything but eat the Pacmans leather.
a fight between two losers
JMM should definitely get a third bout with Pacman. How can pacman expect to beat Floyd when he couldn't even beat Marquez convincingly. JMM will give Pacman more than he can handle.
WHO WILL WATCH THIS FIGHT?MARQUEZ IN A NO WIN FOR 2 FIGHTS ALREADY.I THINK HATTON SHOULD TAKE COTTO.BOTH HAVE 2-2 LOSES.
bagay cla puro talunan!!!!!!
jeez, hatton will knock marquez out..JMM has exceptional talents and skills but his weak chin won't survive hatton's punches..that is if hitman has already recovered from his KO trauma.hatton has more power in his punch than mayweather.and marquez @ 140 may not be in his best shape,he should've gone back to 135
the only reason why pac wasn't able to knock marquez's ass last time was that pac has outgrown the 130 pounds and needed to drain himself that's why he looked sluggish.but at 140 JMM will be knocked out before 2nd round
Got something to say?
