Marquette falls out of top 25

On the heels of their overtime loss to Cincinnati on Saturday, the Marquette Golden Eagles fell out to the AP top 25 rankings on Monday.

Following a home triumph over Seton Hall on Wednesday, MU, presently tied for second in the Big East standings with Louisville (each club boasts a 4-1 mark in league play through Monday), trailed the Bearcats by 16 at halftime en route to suffering its first defeat in conference play this season.

Marquette, who earned a spot in the top 25 rankings (coming in at No. 25) for the first time this year one week prior, garnered a total of 92 votes to place them at No. 26 in this week’s poll.

While the blue and gold—who joined Illinois, San Diego State and UCLA as the four program’s to drop from the rankings—found themselves on the outside looking in, four Big East affiliates were pegged in this week’s top 25 standings: No. 3 Syracuse; No. 5 Louisville; No. 21 Cincinnati; and No. 24 Notre Dame.

The Golden Eagles (13-4, 4-1), return to action on Saturday when they play host to the Friars of Providence at 1:00p.m CST.
