Yesterday on June 20, 2014, Examiner.com was on the scene for a very intimate Maroon 5 concert at the Bowery Ballroom presented by American Express. The special event was also live streamed globally and marked the culmination of “American Express’ EveryDay Getaway” campaign. The campaign kicked off with a Mother’s Day “selfie & snapshots” photo contest with an epic prize – a getaway to NYC for 50 winners and their guests.
Before the concert began, the contest winners enjoyed drinks and took fab pictures at the photo booth on the lower level of the venue. Soon it was showtime. When the band took the stage, they were greeted by loud cheers and applause. Adam began the show with "One More Night." He was wearing a reddish orange Hawaiian shirt, dark pants and New Balance kicks. As red and yellow lights flashed, they performed "This Love." Next they performed "Lucky Strike" and guitarist James Valentine did a crazy cool solo. His black and white striped shirt matched his black and white guitar.
Soon, Levine belted the band's first major hit "Harder To Breathe." Levine commented that they played Bowery Ballroom many years ago maybe in 2003. He said that they rarely get to play a venue like this and it is very cool and intimate. "Sunday Morning" followed. This song is one of my personal favorites. "Makes Me Wonder" had a cool arrangement and went into a neat musical interlude, which included the "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" beat. "Shiver" was another lively number and the crowd went wild for "Wake Up Call."
After that, attendees were treated to the band performing their new single "Maps" for the first time. Levine joked that he was nervous. "Love Somebody" and "Stereo Hearts" were next. They closed the show with "Moves Like Jagger," where Levine invited the audience to jump with him. It wouldn't be a concert without an encore. Levine performed "Payphone," an acoustic version of "She Will Be Loved" and last but not least "Daylight." For those who missed the live steam, the complete Maroon 5 #AmexEveryDayLIVE performance is now available as VOD across Vevo’s web, mobile/tablet and TV apps.
Earlier in the day, we joined the lucky contest winners as they got makeovers for the concert. All the lucky moms were treated to a true Manhattan socialite experience getting services from city's best of the best. Upon arrival to a swanky Milk Studios loft, Sephora's army of make up artists awaited to professionally beautify these ladies followed by "Diva" hair blowouts from DryBar. Once they were hair and make up ready it was time to pick a dress for the evening. That is where Rent the Runway stepped in. With a few options to chose from and help from style expert Rachel Zalis, it was bound to be and unforgettable night out.
The host of the event, "The Real Housewives of New York's" Kristen Taekman shared with us few of her tips on how to be a hands on mom, but still look fabulous. She likes to dress up for the day before her children wake up. She says a little bit of blush or mascara already make you feel more energetic and confident. She keeps her body lean and tight with the JCORE Accelerated Body Transformation 20 minute workout. It seems like it works! She quit coffee six years ago and instead drinks a natural energy drink called Eboost. Kristen tries to eat gluten free foods at home. Mrs. Taekman might in the future try her luck as a broadcast journalist or a jewelry designer. In the morning, the winners were treated to a SoulCycle Spin Class inside iconic Grand Central Terminal with Kristen Bell and had an amazing three-night stay at the InterContinental New York Times Square hotel. They also got to attend the "Rock of Ages" Broadway show with a cast meet and greet.
