NeNe’s second-time-around marriage to her long-time love Gregg Leakes has welcomed the return of the always fabulous, Marlo Hampton. We last saw Marlo on season four of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” where several members of the cast thought that she and NeNe would not get along. Well it’s safe to say not only did they hit it off, NeNe included Marlo in her wedding not only as a bridesmaid, but also creative director!
“I Dream Of NeNe: The Wedding” chronicles the road to NeNe and Gregg’s second marriage and extravagant wedding, while also dealing with her nine bridesmaids! NeNe sure has her hands full dealing with this group of women. Examiner had the opportunity to speak with the most discussed bridesmaids, Marlo Hampton and she discussed all the drama between the bridesmaids, who she bonded with, and of course NeNe’s big day!
Celebrate NeNe’s nuptials with a two-hour season finale of “I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding” as it moves to a new time slot on Sunday, October 27 at 8pm ET/PT -10pm ET/PT only on Bravo! Read my full interview with Marlo Hampton below:
Examiner: How are you?
Marlo Hampton: “I can’t complain, I have a lot of mixed emotions over here, but for the most part I am happy.”
Examiner: Welcome back to Reality TV, did you have any reservations when NeNe first approached you to be a bridesmaid?
Marlo Hampton: “No, I was very shocked and really surprised…she didn’t even ask me, she said, “you’re going to be one of my bridesmaids.” It was my first real wedding and I was really happy that I was able to be a part of it and it was a great experience.”
Examiner: Lets first talk about you and your relationship with the other bridesmaids, who did you bond with the most and why?
Marlo Hampton: “I bonded with Alexis, Laura and I hit it off great, she was very cool and laid back and didn’t have a low self-esteem.”
Examiner: Were you surprised by any of the bridesmaids that NeNe selected?
Marlo Hampton: “No, I wasn’t surprised.”
Examiner: Do you think Diana is intimidated by you, and if so, why?
Marlo Hampton: “I don’t know what the hell is wrong with Diana! I have my own issues, but she brings a whole set of mental issues, she’s very territorial when it comes to friends and she has had it out for me since day one and she didn’t like my energy. I brought out a lot of excitement from NeNe and Diana didn’t seem to like that and it was weird because I wasn’t one of NeNe’s friend’s that needed her to pay for anything…I really don’t know what is wrong with that girl.”
Examiner: What was the best part for you being a bridesmaid and will you ever do it again?
Marlo Hampton: “I will definitely do it again! The best part for me was being able to design my dress (laughs) I know it sounds shallow!”
Examiner: The other ladies don’t like that you “stand out” and wasn’t a team player for the bachelorette party, what is your side of the story?
Marlo Hampton: “I never played any real sports in my life, so I really don’t know how to be a team player to tell the truth! If it had been explained to me a little better, all they told me was to wear something blue, but don’t come last minute with these little ugly dresses thinking that I am going to change clothes! First of all, they are bridesmaids; I was Creative Director plus a bridesmaid, so my outfit should have been different!”
Examiner: Have you been in contact with the other bridesmaids since the wedding?
Marlo Hampton: “I have been in touch with Alexis, Laura, and Dawn…I haven’t been in contact with Pat, but I really speak on the phone with Alexis, Laura, and Dawn they’re my girls.”
Examiner: Using three adjectives, how would you describe the wedding ceremony?
Marlo Hampton: “What really touched me the most from the wedding was Brent he really touched me, as he went to crying, I went to crying. It was emotional…breathtaking…and real. After seeing her son, that’s when none of our egos, fashion, and drama didn’t matter anymore…we were there to witness true love.”
Examiner: There are rumors that you and NeNe got into a brawl, that you guys are no longer friends, can you please clear up the rumors and gossip; where do you and NeNe stand today?
Marlo Hampton: “I would love to share, but due to us still being in production with “Housewives of Atlanta” I can’t say too much of anything.”
Examiner: Can you tell us about your role on the upcoming season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta?”
Marlo Hampton: “You’re going to definitely see me on a few episodes this season, with a few of the girls and I won’t disappoint you! The viewers are going to be excited and calling their friends, this season is going to be everything!”
Examiner: Will there be a wedding in your future anytime soon?
Marlo Hampton: “I don’t know about that one, but if I do, it is definitely going to be fabulous! We are going to turn up. I told my girlfriends that if I don’t get married, all the girlfriends that have been in my life for the last 10 or 20 years, we’re all just going to marry each other and have a play wedding (laughs)."
Examiner: What are you favorite trends that you are feeling for fall/winter this season?
Marlo Hampton: “I am loving layering up, the jewel tone colors, loving leather! I am also feeling vintage pieces, if it looks good, just go with it! I love Chanel, throw on some Chanel pearls or a Chanel bag and that can go with any look, usually a piece of Chanel will compliment the look.”
Examiner: Lastly, what upcoming projects can viewers expect from you in the near future?
Marlo Hampton: “I always mentor young Glam It Up who are in foster care, because that is near and dear to my heart, and I am working on a few other things, but definitely follow me on Twitter @iheartmarlo or my website, simplymarlo.com and you won’t miss a beat!
